Husband of Annabella Wright, of Hamilton, Ontario.

On 3 May 1942, the British Workman made on lest the route from Greenock, Scotland, to Galverston, Texas, with convoy ON-89. Dispersed from the other ships due to engine trouble, at 6:38 am she was torpedoed and sunk by U-455 south-southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland, position 44°07'N/51°53'W. Seven crew members lost their lives. The captain, 38 sailors and 7 gunners were rescued by the Canadian destroyer HMCS Assiniboine (I18) and the Canadian corvette HMCS Alberni (K103). They were landed in St. John's, Newfoundland.
