Photo of Edward Wilkie
My Father, Edward Wilkie arriving in London, Ontario. Dad encountered 2 German land mines outside of Nijmegan on Friday, November 13th, 1944. Pte. Francis William Gehl, found Dad later that night and pulled him to safety. As a result, Dad lost his right forearm, his right leg above the knee and his left leg below the knee. He married my Mom. Helen Wendell and raised 4 boys. I'm #3. Dad boated, fished, hunted, drove anything he could get into and lived a good life. Growing up, we heard the name, Francis Gehl many times. He was the person responsible for saving Dad's life. -
