Montgomery was a Flight Sergeant on board a Halifax bomber (NP946 "L) that was downed during a raid on the island of Heligoland, 18 April, 1945.<P> All 7 of the aircrew perished, and the bodies of only 3 of these 7 were recovered.<P> Buried alongside Montgomery in Brookwood Military Cemtery were fellow crewmen Air Gunner Davey Newman and F/Sgt. Donald Fraser Ross. They are buried in Plot 51, Row C, graves 7, 8 and 9. The remaining 4 members of the crew are commemorated on Runnymede Memorial. -
