The Ottawa Journal (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) Sterling was a member of the class of 43, -but left Queen's and a brilliant scholarship record in his second year to join the RCAF in February, 1941. He received his wings and commission at Summerside, P.E.I. in December, 1941, and lost his life in a crash at the West Coast last July 7. He was born at Peterborough and received his elementary and secondary schooling in Winnipeg. He spent one year at Glebe Collegiate, where he won a General proficiency award. At the end of his first year at Queen's, Pilot Officer Sterling won a university scholarship valued at $75, and in his second year won the William Baker Memorial Scholarship in physics. His sister, Ruth Sterling, is in Arts '44 at Queen's.
