Queens University Remembers Donald John Sterling Sc’ 1943 http://db.library.queensu.ca/queens_remembers/Sterling,%20DJ/ The Ottawa Journal (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) Sterling was a member of the class of 43, -but left Queen's and a brilliant scholarship record in his second year to join the RCAF in February, 1941. He received his wings and commission at Summerside, P.E.I. in December, 1941, and lost his life in a crash at the West Coast last July 7. He was born at Peterborough and received his elementary and secondary schooling in Winnipeg. He spent one year at Glebe Collegiate, where he won a General proficiency award. At the end of his first year at Queen's, Pilot Officer Sterling won a university scholarship valued at $75, and in his second year won the William Baker Memorial Scholarship in physics. His sister, Ruth Sterling, is in Arts '44 at Queen's. -

Sterling B.Sc. ’21 (father) 292 Flora St. Ottawa, Ont. Enlisted in February 1941 Trained at Summerside P.E.I., graduated last December as a sergeant-pilot and subsequently obtained his officer's rank. Was instantly killed on July 7th 1942 when his plane took fire. Review Aug 1942 D.J. Sterling Memorial Scholarship established in honour of the first member of Science '43 to lose his life in the war. Review, June 1943 -
