Additional information

On 21 September 1940, at 6:14 am, the Blairangus was torpedoed and sunk by U-48 approximately 320 miles (515 km) west-south-west of Rockall, between Ireland and Iceland, position 55°18'N/22°21'W. Six crew members lost their lives. The captain and the 27 other sailors were rescued by the SS Pikepool, which landed them in St. John's, Newfoundland, where one of the survivors died.
