Photo of Bernard Boyd
From the Sydney Academy Memorial booklet, published by the Student's Assembly in memory of former students who served during the Second World War. The original pictures were supplied by the Sydney Post-Record and the booklet was compiled by Jack Wilcox, class of 1946 and Donald Trivett, class of 1947.
Additional Information courtesy of Floyd Williston:
F/O Bernard A. Boyd, age 22, was killed when his 408 (Goose) Squadron Halifax-NP796 collided in mid-air with a Halifax-NP820, of 426 Squadron, piloted by P/O J. Tuplin, of Kensington, PEI. The two aircraft were on the last major bombing raid of the Second World War (April 25, 1945) . There were no survivors. Six of the seven bombers lost in that raid on Wangerooge, were involved in mid-air collisions with Bomber Command aircraft. F/O Boyd's name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, in Surrey, England. (Source: Through Footless Halls of Air: Stories of a Few of the Many Who Failed to Return, by Floyd Williston) -
