Baptized Joseph Georges Paul Laprise. Son of Adélard Laprise and Alphonsine Royer, of St. Athanase, Kamouraska, Québec.

Enlisted in the 1st Battalion of the Voltigeurs de Québec, he embarked for Great Britain on November 25, 1943, and arrived at his destination on December 2. Assigned to the Mediterranean theater of operations with Force M on March 26, 1944, he embarked again to land in Italy on April 9. During the crossing, on March 29, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment. He was wounded in action on September 1, 1944, by shrapnel that struck his right forearm and neck during the fighting to capture the Gothic Line. He returned to the regiment on October 11 and was assigned to the 4th Battalion. He was killed in action on October 20, 1944, during the Battle of Cesena and the Savio River. He was temporarily buried in Cesena, then exhumed on April 4, 1945, to be reburied at the British Military Cemetery in Cesena.
