Additional information
Baptised Joseph René Castilloux. Son of François Xavier Castilloux and Marie Louise Grenier, Newport, Gaspé, Québec. Brother of Private Raoul Castilloux, serial number D-62464, Fusiliers Mont-Royal, taken prisoner of war on 19 August 1942 during the Canadian raid on Dieppe, Normandy, France. He was held in Germany until the end of the war.

Enlisted in the Fusiliers du Saint-Laurent, he left for England, arriving on October 4, 1942. Transferred to the Royal 22e Régiment, Company A of the 4th Battalion, on 18 February 1943he embarked for Italy on 16 July 1944 and arrived on 29 July. Wounded in action by shrapnel to the head on 3 January 1945, he died on the 4th at 66 British General Hospiral < Mira Mare di Romagna where he was temporarily buried the same day before being exhumed back to earth at Coriano. He had served 1,031 days, of which 833 overseas.

CORIANO RIDGE WAR CEMETERY Italy

CORIANO RIDGE WAR CEMETERY is 3.5 kilometres west of Riccione, a seaside resort on the Adriatic coast, and is reached by turning west off the main Rimini/Riccione road about 1 kilometre north-west of Riccione. In the town of Riccione is a sign leading to the Coriano Ridge War Cemetery. Carry on in the direction of Coriano until a 'T' junction is reached. Turn left and after a short distance the Cemetery will be found on the right-hand side.

The cemetery is permanently open and may be visited outside the working hours of the local gardening staff, but will be unmanned.
