Flight Sergeant Ronald Mark Wood was born February 7, 1921 at Bengough SK. Joined the RCAF and took his training at the RAF station, Nassau, Bahamas. He was stationed overseas in England August 17, 1944. From there he went on many missions over Germany as gunner.
On a mission the evening of February 20, 1945, his plane was attacked by JA88 fighters and went down near the German village of Sirhenausen. Five parachuted to safety while six perished. As the plane went down in flames, Ronald kept firing, scoring a hit and damaging one of the attacking planes. This told by his navigator Ronald Johnson in a letter to his parents May 22, 1945. A quote from that letter--"He did not let anyone down-he carried out the job for which he was trained more than magnificently."

VENRAY WAR CEMETERY Netherlands
Venray is located 40 Km east of Eindhoven in the south east province of Limburg. Approaching from Helmond via the road to Venray lies the first exit in Venray to Overloon N270. From the first crossroads along this road turn left and follow signposts to the cemetery.
