Baptized Joseph Donat Maurice Janvier. Son of Arthur Janvier and Anna Gervais dit Beaudoin, of Trois-Rivières, St-Maurice, Québec.

After enlisting in the Royal 22nd Regiment in Quebec City, he sailed for Great Britain on July 15, 1940, and landed in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 1. He set sail again on June 15, 1943, with Force M to take part in Operation Husky in the Mediterranean. On July 10, he landed on the beach at Pachino, Sicily, with the second assault wave. He was killed in action on July 28, 1943, during an assault on Mount Scalpello, near Catenanuova. He had served for 1,240 days, including 1,108 days overseas.
