Son of Joseph Krzyzewski and of Frances Krzyzewski (nee Coulas), of Ottawa, Ontario.
From May 13, 1941, to April 4, 1942, he served with the 2nd Battalion of the Governor General’s Foot Guards – NPAM – service number C-431400. On April 4, 1942, he enlisted in the Lanark & Renfrew Scottish Regiment, service number C-79088. On March 27, 1943, he embarked for Great Britain and arrived there on April 4, 1943. On July 15, 1943, he was assigned to the Mediterranean theater of operations and incorporated into Force M. On the 21st, he was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment, reconnaissance group, and on the following August 15, he departed for Italy. He landed in Sicily on August 27 as part of Operation Husky, which had begun on July 10. On September 10, he set foot on the Italian mainland at Reggio di Calabria. On July 17, he was assigned to the 4th Battalion. He was killed in action on September 14, 1944, during an assault on Mount Marano while attempting to capture the Palazzo dei Vergers, north of Marano. He was buried in Pesaro, near the battlefield, in grave number 12. On May 31, 1945, he was exhumed and reburied at the Canadian Cemetery in Gradara, in grave number 1.G.48. He had served for 895 days, including 537 days overseas.
