Son of André (alias Andrew) Major and Mary Sophia Larocque, of Williamstown, Ontario.

He served 30 jours in 1940, service number 457613, when he trained with the 31st CA(R)TC. Enlisted with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengary Regiment, he was deployed to the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada, on 18 October 1941. He served in Québec, in Ontario and in Hong Kong with Force C.
