Baptized Joseph Rosaire Marcel Gilles Brault. Son of Louis-de-Gonzague Brault and Émilienne Dagenais from Montréal, Québec.

Enlisted on 28 February 1940 in Company B of the Royal 22e Régiment, he left Halifax, Nova Scotia, for Great Britain on 16 July aboard the SS Batory. On 10 July 1943, he landed in Sicily and on 27 July was killed in action during an assault on Mount Scalpello at Catenanuova in the province of Enna, where he was buried on 31 July. He was exhumed and reburied in the cemetery at Agira, Sicily.
