Baptized Joseph Philippe Adrien Gagné. Son of Narcisse Gagné and Adélaïde Gagnon.
Enlisted with the Voltigeurs de Québec in Rimouski, Quebec, he was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment on April 7, 1942. On the 8th, he embarked for Great Britain and landed in England on the 19th. From February 24 to March 17, 1943, he was loaned to the 2nd Greek Battalion. On June 15, with Force M, he sailed for the Mediterranean to take part in the Allied landing in Sicily on July 10. He landed at Pacchino with the second wave of the assault around noon. He was wounded in action on July 30, 1943, by shrapnel in the back during the assault on Mount Santa Maria, near Catenanuova. He was transported to the 9th Canadian Field Ambulance, where he died on the 31st.
