Additional information
Son of Benjamin Oliver Payne and Margaret Corbet Weaver, of Fort Rouge, Manitoba. Benjamin served as a Captain in Europe with the British Army in the First World War.

He served with the 2nd Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers - NPAM - from March to September 1939, the 1st Battalion in Manitoba, Jamaica with Y Force, Hong Kong with C Force. He had 1,082 days of service, including 303 overseas.

To commemorate his sacrifice, the Manitoba government named Payne Lake located on Cockeram Lake in his honor in 1979.
