Son of Chalmer Post and Geranie (alias Jearney) Hartsgrove, of Glassville, Carleton, New Brunswick.
Enlisted with the Carleton and York Regiment, he was deployed to the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada, on 28 November 1940. He served in New Brunswick, in Newfoundland with Force W, in Québec, and in Hong Kong with Force C. He had 922 days of service, including 403 overseas.
