Son of Charles Edward Rodd and Suzanne Pearl Vennard. Husband of Ida Jane Tancy Burnham, of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

As a student he served in the Active Reserve of the Winnipeg Grenadiers, Regimental Number 3233, from May 6th, 1925 to October 14th, 1927, in the COTC at the University of Manitoba, Regimental Number 248, from October 3rd, 1928 to October 8th, 1929, in "C" Battery Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, Regimental Number 9912, for 93 days until August 11th, 1933 as a driver, Winnipeg Grenadiers - NPAM - Regimental Number 3331, March 17th, 1936 to October 14th, 1937, 2nd Armoured Car Regiment - NPAM - Regimental Number 3176, October 15th, 1937 to April 11th, 1939, 1st Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers, Regimental Number H-6330, and served in Manitoba, Bermuda with "B" Force, Jamaica with "Y" Force, Hong Kong with "C" Force. He had 1,204 days of service, including 428 overseas.
