Son of Charles Germain Vermette and Marguerite Guillot dit Diotte, of Campbellton, New Brunswick. Husband of Elizabeth Savage, father of Gloria, Joan, Catherine and Margaret Vermette. Brother of Émile Vermette, who served in Europe during the Second World War; he survived the war.

Patrick served in Québec, in Newfoundland with Force W, in Hong Kong with Force C. He had 767 days of service, including 354 overseas.
