Baptized Joseph Edgar Godin. Son of Alexandre P.S. Godin and Amanda Godin, of Paquetville, Gloucester, New Brunswick. Brother of Privates Ernest Godin, Théophile Godin, and Alcide Godin, the latter of whom fought in Italy and the Netherlands. They all survived the war.
Enlisted at the 4th Military District Depot, he was assigned to Company B. A relatively undisciplined soldier, he sailed for Great Britain on February 16, 1944, arriving on the 25th. On March 25, 1944, he set sail again for Italy, where he landed on the Italian mainland with Force M on April 9. Meanwhile, during the crossing, he was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment on March 29. He was reported missing in action on January 7, 1945, during fighting on the dikes of the Senio River near Russi. His body was found and buried on the 11th in the cemetery of Russi, near Ravenna, in grave number 34. Around August 23, 1946, his remains were exhumed and reburied in Ravenna, grave number III.E.5. He had served 683 days, including 326 days overseas.
