This is the only picture taken of Wilbert in uniform. He was killed in action soon after. Wilbert was a pilot of a Halifax Bomber. His brother Alan Thomas was a flight instructor in the British Commonwealth Air Training Program who survived the war.

PIHEN-LES GUINES WAR CEMETERY Pas de Calais, France
Phien-les-Guines is a village 10 kilometres south-south-west of Calais and about 3 kilometres east of the main road from Calais to Boulogne.
PIHEN-LES GUINES WAR CEMETERY is on the southern side of the village and lies 70 metres north of the Communal Cemetery with the entrance through the Communal Cemetery.
