Additional information

His full name was Joseph Robert Osia Laliberté. He was the son of Julien Laliberté and Rachel Picard. He was married to Bibiane René of Montreal, Quebec, whom he married on May 8, 1943. He had no children.

Enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, he was assigned to various units within that corps before departing for Great Britain on September 14, 1943. On the 20th, in England, he served with the 2nd Medium Artillery Regiment Company until October 24, when he embarked with Force M for the Mediterranean, landing in Italy on November 8. On April 7, 1944, he was transferred to the 4th Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment. On September 1, 1944, he was seriously wounded by a bullet to the sacrum during the battle of Borgio Santa Maria. He was transported to the 3rd Canadian Field Dressing Station in Monbaroccio, where he died on the 4th and was buried in grave 14. On March 27, 1945, his remains were exhumed and reburied in Montecchio, Umbria, in grave number III.E.10.
