His name is also engraved on the Scottish National War Memorial 1914-1945 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

At 12:15 a.m. on October 29, 1942, the Bic Island was torpedoed and sunk by U-224 southwest of Rockall, an isolated rock between Ireland and Iceland, position 55°05'N/23°27'W.
