On 7 December 1942, the Eugnie Livanos was intercepted in the Indian Ocean by the German auxiliary cruiser Michel, which sank her with cannon 300 miles (483 km) south-east of Madagascar. Of the 27 crew members, 11 were killed, while the others were taken prisoner and taken to Germany.
