The Norwegian motor ship Hoegh Silverdawn, en route from Fremantle, Australia, to Basra, Iraq, with a military cargo, was shelled and torpedoed by the German privateer Michel and was sunk southeast of the Cocos Islands, Keeling, in the Indian Ocean, position 25°40'S0/92°00'E.
