J28491 Flying Officer (No. 190 Squadron RAF bomb aimer) John Kenneth (Ken) MacDonnell Jr. (b.1922) of Kandahar was KIA 19440921 and is buried at Oosterbeek war cemetery, Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands. MacDonnell's Stirling was shot down after successfully dropping supplies to the 1st British Airborne Division at Arnhem in the operation celebrated in the film A Bridge Too Far, only two mwmbers of the crew were able to bail out. He was the son of John Kenneth and Jean Hunter (Weir) MacDonnell who came from South Lanarkshire, Scotland, owned a store at Kandahar< SK and moved to Windsor, Essex Co., Ontario, during the war where John Sr. was employed by Ford. Ken was educated at Kandahar and Wynyard and was a student when he enlisted at Saskatoon in 1942. His brothers Byron and R.H. both served in the Navy.

This is a picture of my father, Robert W. MacDonnell, brother of F.O. John Kenneth MacDonnell and his Mom, Jean H. MacDonnell, who served in the Royal Canadian Navy also, in WWII.
