L'ILE-D'YEU (PORT JOINVILLE) COMMUNAL CEMETERY Vendee, France

The Ile-d'Yeu is a small island, about 8 kilometres long some 23 kilometres south of the Ile de Noirmoutier. Port-Joinville is the village with a harbour where the ferry lands. The cemetery is south of the village on the right-hand side of the road to Port-de-la-Meule, and along the right-hand wall from the main gate are the graves of eight British soldiers (one of whom is not identified) and of three airmen of the Royal Air Force, four of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and one of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Seven of the airmen are buried in a collective grave, marked by one upright headstone and seven recumbent slabs.
