On 23 August 1941, the Stork was sailing with convoy OG-71 between Preston, England, and Gibraltar when the ships were attacked at 2.14 am by U-Boat U-201. At 2:16 am, the submarine sent two more torpedoes which hit the Stork and the Aldergrove, which sank in position 40°43'N/11°39'W. The captain of the Stork, 16 crew members and two gunners lost their lives. The three surviving sailors were rescued by the British corvette HMS Campion (K108) and landed in Gibraltar on the 24th.
