Son of Edward Philipps (killed in action on 14 February 1916 in Flanders, during the First World War, when he was Corporal with the 10th Battalion, Camerionians (Scottish Rifles) British Army, service number 8113) and Lily Jane Jamieson.

Husband of Claris Irene Lowry, of Sawyerville, Compton, Québec. Father of Gloria Irene Phillips and Constance Lillian Phillips.

He served in Québec, in New Brunswick, in Newfoundland with Force W, in Hong Kong with Force C and in Japan in captivity. He had 1,222 days of service, including 785 overseas.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
