Son of David and Martha Gerring, of Brandon, Manitoba. He was single and employed as an auto parts clerk. He was the brother of Thomas Alfred, Mrs. Riesberry and Mrs. Fish. He enjoyed skating, shooting and mechanics.
1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, General Service Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. His mother was posthumously awarded his Operational Wings on 8 October 1946.
