S.S. Caribou
RN Seaman Eli Maxwell BISHOP was aboard the Newfoundland ferry 'S.S. Caribou' on 14 October 1942, when-without warning-it was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat. The Caribou served the North Sydney-Port Aux Basques ferry run from 1925 until 1942, when it was torpedoed by a German submarine. It sank with a loss of 136 lives. (Newfoundland Provincial Archives)
