S/Cst. Ooyoumut was hired as an Inuit special constable in Baker Lake, Northwest Territories (now known as Nunavut) He was a skilled hunter,traveler interpreter, and guide. S/Cst. Ooyoumut drowned in the Kikatavyuk River, Nunavut, (formerly known as Northwest Territories, while on special duty.
He was married to Rhoda and they had four children.
