In November of 1995 plans made by Georgia Keddy to purchase three Veterans memorials were approved. This was the first time in the North Central Vancouver Island Zone, which contains 10 Royal Canadian Legion branches, that such a venture had been attempted.

The memorials are located in Parksville at St. Anne's Church, Knox United Church, and Yates Memorial. The memorials were constructed in June of 1996 in memory of the Parksville and area Veterans who survived the wars and died in later years. The dedication ceremony took place on October 27, 1996. There was a colour guard, laying of wreaths, unveiling, and a light lunch served by the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 49.

This memorial to the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War was erected by Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 293. Branch 293 came into existence in 1942 and the building was officially opened in April 1947. By Armistice Day a flag pole was erected and a Cenotaph built by early members R. Gilliland and the stucco work by Frank Lockwood who was president for four (4) years. This Cenotaph was a focal point for Remembrance Day ceremonies for many years until the plot of ground it stood on was needed for other purposes. However, a new monument was erected in 1989 close to the Legion Building. It is made of local rocks from a mountain overlooking Sproat Lake. Much of the work done was voluntary and the cost to the Branch was $1,180.00.
