On April 7, 1929, a parade to the Abbotsford Cenotaph was headed by members of Chilliwack bank and composed of 40 war Veterans and the Abbotsford Girl Guides' troop. Bishop de Pencier unveiled the cenotaph and and dedicated it to those who lost their lives in the First World War. The ceremony was attended by about 300 people. Many wreaths and floral sprays were placed at the monument by relatives and friends of the departed heroes.

The monument was made of grey British Columbia granite and stands nine feet tall with base stones. It was to be permanently illuminated by an electric lamp placed at the peak, but it was vandalized so often that the lamp was replaced by a cross. Contractors for the memorial were Art Monument Co., Ltd., of Vancouver and New Westminster. President of the firm J.W. Whitworth saw service in the 54th Battalion. The cost of the memorial with electrical fixtures was about $600.

The Second World War plaque was added in the 1950s and the Korean War plaque was unveiled on June 7, 1992.

In 2016, those associated with the cenotaph wanted to correct spelling mistakes, include missing names found from new research and include ranks. On June 15, 2022, the new plaques were unveiled to the public and officially dedicated.

The Veterans' Mural was erected in 1998 by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 265 and is dedicated to war time Veterans. It was painted by artist Dean Lauze. The first panel represents the Canadian Army with Canadian tanks and soldiers. The third panel represents the Canadian Air Force and Navy with Canadian planes and ships.

The most unique element is the center panel. When Dean told his good friend about the mural he would be painting for the Aldergrove Legion, his friend brought Dean a special memorial picture of his uncle who died in the First World War. His uncle was surrounded with beautifully illustrated flags from Allied Forces of the First World War.

In the mural, Dean changed out some of the flags to represent the Second World War. Not all the countries could be incorporated in the design. After consulting with the legion, it was decided to show flags from Canada, USA, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Norway, Poland and the Netherlands. The fallen Veteran was replaced with a sepia toned image of Vimy Ridge and a Veteran holding hands with two of his grandchildren in front of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. An important message at the bottom - “To all men and women who served their countries in times of war” is a blanket statement that includes all men and women, all countries (even the enemy countries of the time), and all wars.

The Wilson Memorial Maple Tree was planted as a memorial to a soldier, A. W. Wilson, at the intersection of 96th Avenue and Glover Road in Fort Langley. In front of the matured Broad Leaf Maple tree is a bronze memorial marker that lists the name of a soldier being commemorated and a small tribute. Broad-leaf maple is the largest growing maple species native to British Columbia (reaching up to 36 meters), but they are the symbol of Canada and an early expression of Canada’s nationhood – the maple leaf was the first military insignia for Canada, and is appropriate to memorialize fallen Canadian soldiers with maple trees. Wilson joined the 360 men from Langley who went overseas to fight in the First World War. He died at Vimy Ridge in 1917 – one of about 36 who died in the line of duty.

Dr. Benjamin Marr and Archie Payne, Langley residents who were members of the Langley Volunteers division, wanted to honour their fallen comrades by having broad-leaf maple trees planted and named after the soldiers. They also arranged for the street names on which each Maple stood to be changed to the last name of the soldier being memorialized at that particular site. This tree is one of four First World War memorial maple trees that have survived in the Township and represented the residents’ pride in their community and their civic-mindedness in honouring those who fought and died in the First World War. The trees were planted in 1923.
