Over the chapel's main door, there is a window dedicated to the Canadian Martyrs, a gift of the surviving Irish Canadian Rangers, erected at the time of the chapel construction, in memory of the officers and men of the regiment. It was constructed by Charles William Kelsey of Montreal. The large central panels and two of the smaller central panels of this window portray the eight martyrs. The upper left panel depicts the seal of the Jesuit Order, and the upper right panel is the Irish Rangers‘ regimental badge, while the two corner panels at the bottom are the Coat of Arms of the Loyola and Onaz branches of the family of Saint Ignatius, founder of the Jesuits, which were combined in various ways over the years to form the unofficial crest of Loyola College.

On Remembrance Day 1933, within a few months of the opening of the Chapel, the Colours of the Duchess of Connaught's Own Irish Canadian Rangers were laid up, and the window was blessed and dedicated. The Irish Canadian Rangers were a regiment formed in Montreal in 1914, whose roots came out of Loyola. Several  hundred men died fighting in the First World War and when the regiment was disbanded in the 1920s, the Regimental Colours were given to Loyola. The flags hung in the Chapel until one was stolen in the late 1970s. It was never recovered.

The Peace Memorial Window

The Peace Memorial Window, restored by the City of Montreal in 1993, was unveiled and
dedicated by the Lord Bishop of Montreal on February the 15th, 1920. The following remarks
appear in the program for the dedication ceremony:

Erected by the Congregation in grateful memory of the fifty-three gallant men of this
Parish who gave their lives for us in the Great War of 1914-1918.

This window... is a fitting Memorial portraying as it does the Peace which is won
through Sacrifice. The allegorical figures kneeling on either side of the Prince of
Peace represent the departed Martyrs and Saints, while the Nations of the world are
represented by typical historical figures, with battle-flags furled and sheathed arms,
doing homage to the "Greatest of all Heroes".

The Inscription bears the names of the principle battles in which the Canadian
Forces took a prominent part.

The Peace Memorial Window was erected by the Anglican Church of the Ascension congregation to honour members who died in the Great War. It was unveiled and dedicated by the Lord Bishop of Montreal on February 15, 1920. Designed by John Patrick O'Shea and Henri Perdriau in 1920, the window depicts Christ standing in front of a colonnade while representatives of France and England pay tribute to Him. St. George and the Archangel Michael, both symbolic of the struggle of good over evil, kneel on either side of Him, while Britannia, Joan of Arc, the Black Prince, Charlemagne, and a handful of other figures cluster around the steps below. Principle battles in which the Canadian Forces took a prominent part in are included on the inscription.

Born in Montreal on May 23, 1868, from a Irish origin family, John Patrick O'Shea began his working life as a glass polisher. Two of his brothers were plumbers, so he easily mastered lead shaping and welding. In 1896, he operated his business of glass import and distribution on Perrault lane near Craig street (today around St-Dominique and St-Antoine streets). In 1918, he welcomed stained glass artisan Henri Perdriau at his workshop and together they produced a very large number of works. The association lasted until 1923 after which O'Shea evolved alone.

The Church of the Ascension became surplus and was put up for sale in 1988. The City of Montreal acquired the building in 1992 to relocate the local public library and in 1993 the city restored the window.
