This cenotaph was erected by the Town of Pierceland and their Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 178, and dedicated to the veterans of the First and Second World Wars. It was Unveiled on July 2, 1995 and the Official Dedication was on Nov. 11 1995.

THIS LAKE IS NAMED IN HONOUR OF HAROLD SHANNON, WHO WAS BORN IN THE KINISTINO DISTRICT IN 1894 AND DIED IN 1958.
HE SERVED HIS COUNTRY DURING WORLD WAR I AND ALSO ACTED AS POSTMASTER AND JUSTICE OF THE PEACE.
DURING HIS MANY YEARS IN THE DISTRICT, HE WAS A TRUE SPORTSMAN AND CONSERVATIONIST.
ERECTED BY THE CANADIAN LEGION, SNOWDEN, BRANCH NO. 205, IN COOPERATION WITH THE SASKATCHEWAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.

This lake, dedicated as a memorial to Harold Shannon, a former soldier, postmaster and justice of the peace, was erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 205 and the Saskatchewan Department of Natural Resources. A stone stele is located at the memorial site.

Erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 15, this memorial is dedicated to the local veterans of the First World War. The cross was made by Mr. Charles Cutting. The stone used in the base of the Memorial was collected from the land of those who gave their lives in the First World War. Mr. Bert Proctor was the President and Mr. William Reed was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Legion Branch at that time. Mr. Harry Evans and Mr. Ted Taylor were two of the soldiers who failed to return. The Memorial overlooks the Lake that bears its name (Memorial Lake) as well as the village of Shell Lake.
