At the time of the call for volunteers to serve in the now famous and historic Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), six young men went forth from the Red Deer district to serve the Empire. They were Charles Cruickshank, Angus Jenkins, Archie McNicol, George Martin, Charles Kendrew and William Metcalf. Of these six, the three latter lived to return after their service while the three former laid down their lives. Lord Strathcona gave $1,000 to Red Deer for the building of a memorial to the memory of the three men listed on the plaque, who were from the Balmoral District. The Victorian Order of Nurses donated $2,000. The fund led to the opening of the Red Deer Memorial Hospital in 1904 at a cost of $2,500 and furnishing of the building was undertaken by the Ladies Hospital Aid Society.

In 1923, the hospital was reorganized as the Red Deer Municipal Hospital. The original hospital building was torn down in 1961 and renamed Red Deer General Hospital. In 2012, the memorial plaque was donated to the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery. Since 2013 it has been on display as part of a permanent history exhibit.

This memorial is dedicated to members of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan #36 S.F.T.S. R.A.F. Penhold that were killed during training at CFB Penhold during the Second World War. It was dedicated by 703 (Central Alberta) Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, ex-Royal Air Force members and friends to mark the 50th anniversary of a war agreement that made Canada the main training area for Commonwealth airmen.

The Red Deer cemetery was once farmland belonging to John Jost Gaetz. In 1893, Gaetz donated the land to the Methodist Church, for the development of a park-like cemetery on the outskirts of town. The City of Red Deer took over the cemetery in 1907 and continue to operate it. Five fields of honour are located throughout the cemetery: each of these contains the graves of veterans who served in the First or Second World War, Korean War or on a peacekeeping mission.

Lieutenant Cecil B. Whyte was killed in action 21 days after retraining as a pilot with the Royal Scots Royal Air Force in 1918. Cecil B. Whyte’s family were advised that he was being posthumously awarded King George V’s 1914-1915 Star. Cecil’s two brothers Wilfred and Reginald also fought in the war and Wilfred was also killed in action.

From 1941 to 1945, the A-20 Camp Site was home to thousands of Trainees. It was one of two advanced Training Centres in Canada for Service Corps. After receiving basic training at other centres around the country, young servicemen would come to Red Deer to learn skills related to supply and transport, such as driving and repairing army vehicles, reading maps, defending against gas attacks and even using guns. In the early 1940's, when the population of the city of Red Deer was 2,500, the A-20 Camp nearly doubled the population. The two larger buildings are now the Memorial Centre and a maintenance building. The barrack would become the earliest portions of Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. The military quarters would later become River Glen School, and Camille J. Lerouge would be built on the lighter-coloured field. This memorial is dedicated to the A-20 Advanced Training Centre. The Cairn is a result of efforts by retired Captain Alex Campbell of Toronto. It was erected by the Granite Store in Toronto, Ontario on May 24, 2000.

A plaque in Gaetz Memorial United Church honours Major Harold Leonard Gaetz who was killed in action at Courcelette, France in 1916. He was the son of Reverend Joseph Gaetz, of Middleton, Nova Scotia and husband of Elizabeth Grace Gaetz, of Red Deer, Alberta.

This plaque is dedicated to Sgt. Raphael Louis Zengel V.C.

This memorial was originally erected by local veterans in memory of their fallen comrades of the First and Second World Wars. In 1996 members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 212 added another plaque in memory of the veterans of the Korean War and peacekeeping operations.

This memorial, which consists of a Harvard trainer aircraft and a cairn, was originally dedicated by the city of Red Deer and Royal Canadian Air Force Station Penhold in honour of those who flew the Harvard over central Alberta between 1952 and 1965. The memorial was rededicated in 1984 upon the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Erected by the Frith family, this memorial window is dedicated to the memory of Stanley Frith who was declared missing in action in 1944.

This memorial field of honour is marked as a memorial with a stone cairn. It was unveiled in 1994 through the efforts of the town of Sylvan Lake and Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 212 and is dedicated to all veterans.

Erected by the local First World War veterans' association, this memorial was originally dedicated to the local veterans of the First World War. It later also incorporated commemorations for the local veterans of the Second World War and the Korean War.
