This memorial consists of three brick panels, including the original stone memorial (found at a local Boy Scout camp), and a bronze plate containing the proper rank, name and date of death of the ten men, and a descriptive story of the pioneer era of flight. Gerry Carline, who found an old First World War air force memorial in the corner of a shed at the Scout Camp in 2000 wanted to restore it and find a place to put it on display. The Moose Jaw Memorial Committee erected the memorial on the north side of the Cenotaph in Crescent Park (NICMM #47005-002). The Committee received a maximum of $5,958 through the Community War Memorial Program, and it is dedicate to the ten men with ties to the community who served as pilots with the Royal Flying Corps and lost their lives during the First World War.

Government of Saskatchewan - NEWS RELEASE - NOVEMBER 10, 2005 - HIGHWAY 2 DESIGNATED \"VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY\"

Highway 2 between Moose Jaw and Prince Albert has been named "Veterans Memorial Highway" as a permanent tribute to Saskatchewan veterans. This designation was announced at the Service of Remembrance in memory of Saskatchewan Public Service Employees who have given their lives in war, held today at the legislature. The Veterans Memorial Highway sign was unveiled by Premier Lorne Calvert, Highways and Transportation Minister Eldon Lautermilch and Past Provincial President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Saskatchewan Command, John Henderson. The service also included the presentation of the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal to 14 veterans by Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock. The highway designation coincides with Veterans Week (Nov. 5th-11th) and is one of several significant honours bestowed to veterans in 2005. The Year of the Veteran. "It is essential to preserve the memory of what veterans have done for our province and country, " Calvert said. "The designation of Veterans Memorial Highway serves as a perpetual visual tribute, demonstrating the entire province's deep respect and admiration for the sacrifices and contributions they have made." "We are honoured to accommodate the request of the Royal Canadian Legion, Saskatchewan Provincial Command and the Saskatchewan Remembers Committee to rename this portion of Highway 2," Lautermilch added. "It is a mark of distinction befitting the men and women who have served their country so admirably." "The Provincial Command of the Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan has long looked forward to the naming of the highway," Henderson said. "Being a veteran of World War II and now the Immediate Past Provincial President of Saskatchewan Command, The Royal Canadian Legion, what a wonderful time to have this accomplishment, especially with this being the Year of the Veteran." Highway 2 from Moose Jaw to Prince Albert is a corridor with significant ties to Saskatchewan's history of military service. In addition to several existing Legion branches along the route at Moose Jaw, Penzance-Holdfast, Young-Zelma, Watrous, Simpson and Prince Albert, the Watrous Legion has a museum of Saskatchewan military history and the Prince Albert Branch is one of the oldest Legions in Canada boasting a significant display of artefacts. Moose jaw's Legion is famous for its beautiful murals, and Moose Jaw is the home of Saskatchewan's 15 Wing military base, which has a rich history of pilot training that began in the early 1920's. Approximately 100 signs will be installed along the corridor's entire length at each major access point to the highway and at other appropriate locations during the spring of 2006. To raise awareness about the Veterans Memorial Highway, the Royal Canadian Legion, Saskatchewan Command plans to actively promote the corridor through a variety of written materials.

"4TH AUG. 1914 TO 11TH NOV. 1918 -
This Cross was constructed
by the Pioneer section of
the 46th Battalion, C.E.F.
at the Village of Carency,
France, after the Battle
of Vimy Ridge, to commem-
orate those of the
Battalion who paid the supreme sacrifice during
the engagement.
It was placed on the
Ridge at night during
the latter part of June,
1917, with a dedication
service conducted by the
Chaplain and stood at
the "Pimple", a strongly
fortified knoll, bristling
with machine guns on the
North of Vimy Ridge. This
part of the Ridge was held
by the Germans until the
12TH of April, 1917, when it
was captured by the
46TH Battalion.
The stand on the
"Pimple" was the last stand
of the Germans on Vimy
Ridge.
The Cross remained there until after the
Armistice. When the
Dominion of Canada erected
a permanent memorial
before the Canadian Corps,
it was sent to Moose Jaw
and finally place in this
Church May 25TH 1930,
with a special service
largely attended by the
members of the 46TH
Battalion residing in
Moose Jaw and district.
This Cross is made of
oak taken from a chateau
demolished by shell fire
in Ecurie Village.
It is regrettable that one
of the panels, containing
names of the killed is
missing.

THE 46TH BATTALION, CEF MEMORIAL
The 46th Battalion's Memorial pictured below is located in Administration Square on the grounds of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
A large number of men who served in the 46th were associated with the University. The members of the Battalion who were associated
with the University have their names inscribed on the walls of the Memorial Union Building (MUB) on Campus as well as on the Memorial Gates
at the entrance to the Main Campus.
The copy of the memorial Bronze located in the the Lt.Col. D.V. Currie VC Armoury in Moose Jaw is the original plaster cast from which the Bronze
Memorial was made. The process of making the Bronze Plaque included the making of the plaster cast and then making a reverse image of the
plaster cast in very fine sand resulting in a perfect mould. After carefully removing the plaster mould from the sand the Bronze was poured into the
mould creating the Memorial pictured below.
For many years the plaster copy languished in the armoury and was in very poor condition. In 2005 it was refurbished, framed and placed on display.
