In 2020, a Bridge of Remembrance was erected to honour the 119 fallen soldiers from Transcona who died during the First and Second World Wars and were buried overseas. The bridge connects the older Field of Honour area with the newly expanded area to the west.

The military section of the Transcona Cemetery was established on June 18, 1918 when the Town Council of Transcona set aside Block 3 for the sole use of members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The military section was properly named Field of Honour in the 1980s.

ROGER J. FIRMAN
of
THE ROYAL WINNIPEG RIFLES

Cpl. Roger J. Firman, age 21,
was killed by Nazi troops of
the 12th SS Hitler Youth Division on 8 June 1944
while being held as a prisoner of war in Normandy.

Over 150 Canadian soldiers fell victim to this war
crime when the SS systematically shot unarmed
prisoners following the D-Day invasion of France.

Before going to war, Roger grew up in a
family home located on this very site.
