Peacekeeper Cairn was dedicated on 8 August 2004 to honour the nine Canadian Armed Forces members with the United Nations peace mission in Egypt who were killed on 9 August 1974 when their plane was shot down in a Syrian missile attack while making a routine supply run to the mission in the Golan Heights. National Peacekeepers’ Day is observed on the anniversary of this attack which is the greatest single-day loss of Canadian Armed Forces members on international peacekeeping duties.

Originally intended to be the granite rollers for a paper mill, these stone cylinders were repurposed into the cairn. It was designed and constructed by Larsen's Memorial and its total weight is approximately 33,000 pounds. The three pillars represent the strength of the Army, Navy, Air Force and most recently Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They also represent Canada's past, present and future.

All three pillars are beveled to 45 degrees at the top. Its center pillar is 12’ tall with the United Nations medal engraved into the top of the stone to represent all the United Nations missions and not one single medal. The left pillar is 10’ tall and engraved with the obverse side of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal. The right pillar is 8’ tall and has the reverse side of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal engraved on its top.

The memorial was erected by the LGen RR Crabbe Chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping and the land was donated by the province. Korean War Veteran Norm Van Tassel, President of the LGen RR Crabbe Chapter, and the inspiration behind the creation of the cairn, said the project took a little over two years to complete. It was funded by the City of Winnipeg, Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans associations, Royal Canadian Legion, War Amps of Canada, Jewish War Veterans Association, Portuguese War Veterans, other military groups and private citizens.

The Women's Tri-Service Monument was dedicated on July 4, 1976, in memory of the women that served or gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The 1.83m monument was created by sculptor Helen Granger Young and depicts three women standing back to back in Second World War era military dress. One woman wears the uniform of the Canadian Women's Army Corps, one wears the uniform of the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division, and one wears the uniform of the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service.

The monument was flown to Winnipeg from Alberta by a Canadian Forces Hercules transport aircraft in early June 1976. It was bronzed at Studio West foundry in Cochrane, Alberta. It was erected by the Women’s Tri-Service Association World War I and World War II Veterans of Winnipeg. The Memorial was later rededicated by Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II.

This memorial is dedicated to those who died with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Canada. It was erected by the Wartime Pilots and Observers Association on Winnipeg on 9 September 1984. In September 1984, the 2.14m Monument "First Flight" was unveiled on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature in Winnipeg. Near the Cenotaph, the statue was dedicated to all the Commonwealth and Allied Airmen trainees and instructors who died during training in Canada. The dedication ceremony was attended by Air Force officials and 5,000 service men from 16 countries and held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Sculptor, Mrs. Young prepared the Airman Memorial for the sculpture that was at Artcast, in Georgetown, Ontario early in 1984. The sculpture was cast in silicon bronze and then finished by hand.

On this site a cenotaph, dedicated to the local war dead of the First World War, was originally erected by the city of St. James and unveiled on 30 June 1936. Having fallen into disrepair, it was replaced by a new memorial, this shaft. Erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 4 (St. James) and the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Branch, it was unveiled on 30 September 1990, and adds dedications to the local war dead of the Second World War and the Korean War.

The Shoulder to Shoulder mural was created by artist Charlie Johnston in 2000 and dedicated to all those who served their country in war and paid the supreme sacrifice. His mural begins with the poem For the Fallen by Lawrence Binyon. It symbolizes someone reading and reflecting on the Veterans.

The first figure in the mural is of Edith Anderson Monture holding a faceless fallen soldier, in the background is Flanders Fields. Edith was born and raised in Six Nations of the Grand River and was the first Indigenous woman to become a registered nurse in Canada. Most Canadian nursing programs excluded Indigenous women so Edith attended New Rochelle School of Nursing in New York and completed her degree in 1914. Edith was the first Indigenous woman from Canada to serve in the United States military. She worked as a public health nurse in New York until the United States entered the First World War in 1917. She then volunteered as a nursing sister with the American Expeditionary Force and spent more than a year at Base Hospital 23 in Vittel, France, treating injured soldiers.

Next to Edith is an image of Sergeant Tommy Prince, a highly decorated Indigenous Veteran who served in both the Second World War and Korean War. Behind Tommy the is an image of an Army tank. Sergeant Tommy Prince was a prominent Anishinaabe activist and Veteran whose brave and tragic life has long held popular resonance. His story is one of the most widely known examples of the wartime contributions of Indigenous soldiers in the mid-20th century, and the poor treatment they received upon their return to civilian life in Canada. His accomplishments attracted national media attention during his lifetime and earned him a great many posthumous tributes. Tommy and Edith both represent the army.

The next image is of Air Force pilot Russ Bannock who received the Distinguished Flying Cross in the Second World War and was the Royal Canadian Air Force’s second highest-scoring ace. When the war broke out he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was posted in 1940 as a flying instructor to the Central Flying School in Trenton, Ontario. By September 1942, he was chief instructor at No. 3 Flying School in Arnprior, Ontario. In total, he delivered more than 2,000 hours of instruction to student pilots enrolled in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.

In 1944, he went overseas and joined the No. 418 Squadron in June, flying de Havilland Mosquitos on intruder missions over Europe. His success prompted his appointment as a flight commander and he was soon promoted to the rank of wing commander and given command of 418 Squadron in October 1944. Shortly thereafter, he was posted to 406 Squadron as commanding officer and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for outstanding leadership in that command. During this period, Russ teamed up with navigator Flying Officer Robert Bruce. Together, they waged war on Germany’s V-1 jet-powered “flying bombs” or “buzz bombs,” at one point destroying four in just one hour. By April 1945, Russ had accounted for the destruction of 11 enemy aircraft and 19 V-1 ‘flying bombs,’ had earned himself the title ‘The Saviour of London,’ and the distinction of becoming the Royal Canadian Air Force's leading night fighter of the Second World War.

Next to Russ is a Second World War female pilot followed by Robert Hampton Gray, a naval pilot who received the Victoria Cross when he gave his life saving the aircraft carrier HMS Formidable from being sunk by a Japanese destroyer. Behind the the two Air Force pilots is an image of a Spitfire and the HMS Formidable is behind Robert Hampton Gray.

The last image is of a Canadian WREN (Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service) carrying a flag with the colours of the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada, Fort Garry Unit #60.

This monument was originally placed on Vimy Ridge in France after the battle in 1917 by the surviving members of the 44th Infantry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. Removed in 1924 to make room for the Canadian national memorial at Vimy, the monument was brought to Winnipeg and reinstalled in June 1926. It has been restored twice -- in June 1967 and October 1992.
