There is no information on when the First World War Honour Roll was unveiled at St. Clair United Church. The church was founded in 1878 as Zion Methodist Church and renamed St. Clair Methodist Church in 1915. It entered the United Church of Canada as St. Clair United Church in 1925 and in 1966 amalgamated with St. Columba United to form St. Matthew's United Church.

A bronze tablet was dedicated to the memory of Lieutenant Ambrose Harold Goodman. Ambrose was born on 6 October 1896 in Cayuga, Ontario. He was the son of Ambrose Kenneth Goodman, of the firm Goodman and Galbraith Barristers and Solicitors; his mother was Linn Goodman. Ambrose was a student of the University of Toronto and a member of the 109th Regiment militia when he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 17 August 1917. Upon arriving in Europe, he was made a lieutenant in the 116th Battalion. He was injured by a shell on the first day of the Battle of Amiens on 8 August 1918 and died of his wounds a week later.
