This memorial, erected by the Royal Canadian Legion, is dedicated to those from the area who have served in the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, and as peacekeepers.

This memorial is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. It was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion. The cenotaph is in the garden bed with the large oak tree near the Juan de Fuca arena. The cenotaph is maintained by West Shore Parks and Recreation. A small Remembrance Day ceremony takes place there on Nov. 11 with two minutes of silence, and wreath laying.

This Honour Roll was erected at St. John the Evangelist Church in honour of members of the congregation who served in the Second World War. By 1977, the church was being served from All Saints', Mission.

This style of an Honour Roll was designed by A.J. Casson when he worked at Sampson-Matthews, a prominent midtown Toronto lithography and commercial art company.

This plaque was erected in honour of Second Lieutenant Robert Hugh Harris who died while serving in the First World War.

This plaque was erected in honour of Private Arthur Norman Hackney who died while serving in the First World War. He was a South African War Veteran.

After the First World War, at meetings of the people of Whonnock in December 1919 and January 1920, it was decided that the Ladies Hall on River Road would be acquired and turned into a Memorial Hall and the funds that were made available in the memory of the soldiers of Whonnock district who fell in the war would be handed over to the Ladies Club to pay off the mortgage and for a memorial: a brass tablet with the names of the fallen soldiers.

In 1920, the Ladies Hall was dedicated to the memory of the soldiers from the area and renamed the Whonnock Memorial Hall. In 1921, a brass memorial plaque dedicated to those from the area who fell in the First World War was attached above the main entrance of the hall. 

In 1944, the Ladies Club handed the deed of the property over to the Whonnock Women’s Institute. The old building fell more and more in disrepair and by 1965 the Women’s Institute moved its meetings to the new Thornhill Hall. In January of 1977, the deed and the hall were turned over to the municipality with the request that the property be held in trust for the community of Whonnock to be used as a memorial park.

After the hall was demolished, the plaque returned to the site for a short time where it was attached to a concrete base. It was moved in 1988 to the Whonnock Lake Centre.

A LAV III Monument is a permanent community symbol of remembrance which pays tribute to our Canadian Armed Forces who served and sacrificed in Afghanistan from 2001-2014. It is constructed from previously used LAV III hulls and remnant parts which have been decommission by the government. They are actual-size, look real but are not functional. A LAV III is a Light Armoured Vehicle made of steel, supported by an 8-wheel drive suspension and powered by a 6-cylinder 350 horsepower diesel engine. It can weigh as much as 16,000 kg, carry various weapons, hold up to 10 passengers and reach speeds of 100 km/h.

The LAV III Monument Selection Committee, which is chaired by Major General (ret’d) David Fraser, a former Canadian Commander of Afghanistan South in 2006 along with other Afghanistan veterans, awards monuments while supplies last. This is a community sponsored monument by the BC Regiment (DCO) Association Charitable Trust. Each monument includes a commemorate plaque and costs $17,500, plus applicable sales tax. The original cost of an operational LAV III ranged from $ 1-4 Million depending upon the configuration. The LAV III is made by General Dynamics Land Systems Canada in London, Ontario, Canada.

The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught's Own) is an armoured reconnaissance reserve regiment whose soldiers assist the Regular Force in meeting Canada's military commitments both at home and abroad. The Regiment is the oldest in Vancouver with a long history, during which it has been designated as Garrison Artillery, Rifles, Infantry, Armour, and finally Armoured Reconnaissance since 1965. Throughout its history, the Regiment has received 34 battle honours. Approximately 100 members served during the Afghanistan conflict, including the Regiment's former Commanding Officer, the Honourable Harjit Sajjan, who completed 3 tours of duty before being appointed as the Minister of National Defence, in 2015.

The BC Regiment Armoury is a designated heritage building located in downtown Vancouver with limited exterior property. As a result, the Armoury could not accommodate the display of the LAV III Monument outside, therefore, a former serving member of the Regiment, William P.J. McCarthy, donated a parcel of his family estate to ensure that his former Regiment could be commemorated in this symbolic way. The LAV III Monument is located close to Mission, overlooking Hatzic Lake and is visible when you drive along Sylvester Road. The Estate is called Shiloh Hill (or Place of Peace Hill) and the grounds will be opened to the public on various occasions throughout the year.

By June 1919, plans were underway by the Maple Ridge Returned Soldiers Reception Committee to create a memorial tablet and monument. A bronze memorial tablet created by O.B. Allan Jewelers was unveiled at the Haney fall fair in September 1919. It listed the names of those who had paid the supreme sacrifice, those who had gone overseas and those who had worked in munitions. Maple Ridge had 221 men who served during the First World War. 

By 1922, the existence of the bronze memorial tablet had almost been forgotten. The Haney Women’s Institute wrote a letter to council requesting that the bronze tablet no longer be concealed in the municipal vault but be erected in some public place, suggesting the new High School for consideration, but refraining from any attempt to influence the Council. Members of council stated that the tablet was in the vault for safety against fire with the intention to place it at the new municipal hall. Further action was referred to the Returned Soldiers Committee.

It is not known when the tablet was moved to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88. Later plaques were added for the Second World War, Korean War and peacekeeping.

The Mission Memorial Centre, also known as the Old Hospital, is a one-storey building located on the corner of 5^th Street and James Street in Mission, British Columbia. The community of Mission continues to be proud of the significant contributions made by local citizens through fundraising and special events that allowed the hospital to open debt-free and to add important machinery and space over the next forty years of its operation. Constructed in 1924, the Mission Memorial Hospital was the first purpose-built hospital in Mission. The building continued to operate as a hospital until 1965, when the new Mission Hospital opened in another part of town. The Old Hospital building was purchased by the local government in 1966, but sat empty until 1973 when the Mission Memorial Centre Society (MMCS) was created and took over operation of the building. The people of Mission wanted to create a useful structure that would help the living while honouring the dead, and the building acts as a memorial to commemorate and honour the casualties of war.
