Canadian Efficiency Medal

Context

This medal was superseded by the Canadian Forces Decoration and was awarded until 17 August 1942.

Eligibility and Criteria

This medal is awarded for 12 years of service to non-permanent active militia, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Auxiliary and reserve until 17 August 1942. Ranks receiving the medal included Warrant Officers, non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and non-commissioned members. The dates were 23 September 1931 for members joining before 01 September 1939.

Efficiency Decoration Territorial

Context

This long service decoration was established in 1930 to replace the Volunteer Officers Decoration (1892), the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Decoration (1899), and the Territorial Decoration (1908). The conditions of the award were amended in 1940, 1946, twice in 1949, 1952 and by Royal Warrant printed as a Special Army Order, No. 136, of 24 November 1952. The decoration was also awarded to Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Auxiliary and Reserve officers until the introduction of the Air Efficiency Award in 1942.

This long service decoration is superseded by Canadian Forces Decoration and was issued until 17 August 1942.

Eligibility and Criteria

This decoration was given for 20 years of commendable service to commissioned officers who were non-permanent active militia and also to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and Reserve up until August 17, 1942. The decoration was established on September 23, 1931 and was for members who joined before September 1, 1939. War service counted double for this medal. Half of the time spent in the ranks counted towards this medal.

Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal

Context

This long service medal was for service between 04 February 1902 and 23 September 1931. This medal is superseded by the Canadian Efficiency Medal.

Eligibility and Criteria

This medal was given for 20 years of service (war years count double) to non-permanent active militia, Royal Naval Canadian Volunteer Reserve (RNCVR) and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Auxiliary. The ranks included Warrant Officers, Non-commissioned Officers (NCOs) and non-commissioned members. The dates were 04 February 1902 to 23 September 1931.

Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration - VD

Context

This long service decoration was superseded by the Canadian Efficiency Decoration and was established in 1899.

Eligibility and Criteria

This decoration is awarded to non-permanent active militia, with the rank of commissioned officers, for 20 years of commendable service. It was awarded from February 4, 1901 until being discontinued on December 31, 1931.

Permanent Overseas Forces Long Service and Good Conduct Medal

Context

A long service medal.

Eligibility and Criteria

This medal was for permanent forces in the Army, Air Force, and Navy until 1925, with ranks of Non-commissioned Officers (NCOs) and non-commissioned members, who had 18 years of service. The medal was established in 1909 and was given out until 1932.

Description

A circular, silver medal, 1.42 inches in diameter. For mounting, there is a single-toe claw, with double-scroll claw supports on the rim, attached to a straight, swiveling suspender.

Royal Canadian Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal

Context

A long service medal.

Eligibility and Criteria

This medal was for Warrant Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and airman, who were permanent members of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), who had 18 years of service. The dates were from 01 August 1944 to 01 September for members enrolled prior to 01 September 1939.

Description

A circular, silver medal, 1.42 inches in diameter. For mounting, an ornate scroll suspender is attached to the medal with a single-toe claw.

Royal Canadian Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal

Context

This long service and good conduct medal was awarded for 15 years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy.

Eligibility and Criteria

Those eligible for this medal were Commissioned Petty Officers (CPO), Petty Officers, and non-commissioned members. The dates were 19 June 1935 to 01 September 1954 for those enrolled before 01 September 1939.

Description

A circular, silver medal, 1.42 inches in diameter. For mounting, there is a single-toe claw with double scroll claw supports on the rim attaches to a straight, non-swiveling suspender.

Long Service and Good Conduct (Army) Medal

A long service medal.

Eligibility and Criteria

This medal was for permanent forces of the Canadian Army with ranks as Warrant Officers, Non-commissioned Officers (NCOs) and non-commissioned members, who had 18 years of service. This medal was issued from 1902 until 1909.

Description

A circular, silver medal, 1.42 inches in diameter.. For mounting, an ornate scroll suspender is attached to the medal with a single-toe claw.

Volunteer Long Service Medal

Context

This long service medal was instituted in 1894, amended in 1896 and disbanded in 1908.

Eligibility and Criteria

This medal was for 20 years of service for men in the Volunteer force, and in 1896 extended to the Indian and Colonial Forces.

Description

A circular, silver medal, 1.42 inches in diameter.

The obverse features an effigy of the reigning Sovereign with the usual legend. The obverse on the Indian and Colonial medals had ET IMPERATRIX or ET IMPERATOR, added to the legend.
