Additional information

Baptisez Joseph Rosario Joffre Laurier Godin. Son of Jérémie Godin and Léa Tardif of Grand-Mère, Laviolette, Québec.

Enlisted in the Trois-Rivières Armored Regiment, he was a very undisciplined soldier. On June 10, 1943, he embarked for Great Britain and arrived on the 19th. He was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment on February 19, 1944. With Force M, he left for the Mediterranean and landed in Italy on May 21, 1944. On January 22, 1945, at around 1:15 p.m., he was involved in a road accident at the intersection of the main road leading to Bagnacavallo and the secondary road. He died while being transported to the 4th Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, where his death was confirmed. He was temporarily buried on the 23rd in the Bagnacavallo cemetery, grave number B.7. Around November 29, 1945, his body was exhumed and reburied in the Cesena cemetery, grave number 4.E.5. He had served 1,948 days, including 592 days overseas.

It should be noted that all correspondence following his accident incorrectly states that he died from wounds sustained in combat.
