Location:

CATANIA WAR CEMETERY lies on the coastal plain in the Contrada Bicocca about 7 kilometres south-west of Catania. From Catania Airport follow the Tangenziale (main road) towards the A19 (in the direction of Palermo). Before reaching the A19, the CATANIA WAR CEMETERY is signposted. The cemetery is permanently open and may be visited outside the working hours of the local gardening staff, but will be unmanned. The local gardening staff working hours are as follows:
From first Monday in April:
Monday to Thursday: 07.30 to 12.00 and 13.00 to 16.45
Friday: 07.30 to 12.00 and 13.00 to 15.30
From first Monday in October:
Monday to Thursday: 08.00 to 12.00 and 13.00 to 16.00
Friday: 08.00 to 12.00 and 13.00 to 15.00

  • Photo of Cyril (Cy) Gosling– 20 March 1943 - Malta pilot who has been doing his share in the island's offensive is F/O Cyril (Cy) Gosling of North Battleford, Saskatchewan. On a recent sweep Gosling sighted an Italian Cant float plane about to take off from its base. Above his right breast pocket he has a pair of Italian wings which he wears as a souvenir.
