Baptized Joseph Antoine Roger Dussault. He only served as Roger Dussault. Son of Eugène Dussault and Berthe Roy, of Montreal, Quebec. Brother of Major Marcel Dussault, soldier number D-126554, who also served with the Royal 22nd Regiment in Europe. He was repatriated in March 1944 and survived the war.
Enlisted in the 4th District Depot of the Royal Canadian Artillery, soldier number D-126555, he was promoted to second lieutenant on April 11, 1942, and to lieutenant on June 13 of that year. Assigned to the Fusiliers Mont-Royal on October 6, he crossed to Great Britain on December 12 and landed there on the 18th. He was temporarily transferred to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles from March 2 to 15, 1943, before being transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment on June 8. He was loaned to the Royal Navy from August 2 to 9, 1943. On October 27, he left for Italy with Force M. On the 28th, he was incorporated into the 4th Battalion and arrived at his destination on November 9. September 14, 1944, was a difficult day for the regiment, which suffered numerous casualties. Dussault was seriously wounded in combat at around 9:30 a.m. on September 14, 1944, during the attacks to capture San Martino. He died of his wounds on the 24th, around 6:30 p.m., at the 4th Canadian Field Station Unit in San Giovanni. He was buried there in grave number 122. After the war, his remains were exhumed and reburied in the Canadian war cemetery in Gradara.

GRADARA WAR CEMETERY Italy
GRADARA WAR CEMETERY is situated in the Commune of Gradara in the Province of Pesaro, at a distance of about 1.5 kilometres from the shores of the Adriatic. To reach the GRADARA WAR CEMETERY from Highway A14 (Bologna-Taranto), exit at Cattolica, which is the nearest town and a seaside resort. The Cemetery is on the main road 5 kilometres south west of the town.
The cemetery occupies a unique position on a hillside which was terraced for agriculture, each row of graves taking up one terrace. The site for the cemetery was chosen in November 1944 and it contains the graves of casualties incurred during the advance from Ancona to Rimini (which broke the Gothic Line) and in the heavy fighting around Rimini, which was taken by the Allies on 21st September 1944.
