This is a picture of my Brother, Bob and his crew. F/S. R. J. Barr R251406, WO W.E. Fasken R160076, F/O A.J. Reid J36936, F/S H.R. Thyret R224882, and F/O Clewley. All died but Clewley, December 4, 1944. My Brother sent this picture to my Mother and Father , Edith and James Barr some time in 1944. Photo submitted by Albert Barr. -

This is a picture of my Mother, Edith Barr, my older Brother Peter Barr and my Brother F/S Robert James Barr. I am not sure where this picture was taken but we lived on Belfair and Lee Avenues in 1944. My mother has put the year 1944 on the back of the photograph. I recognize her handwriting. Reid from The Toronto Star, January 10, 1945, page 14 Story of crash and crew from //lostbombers.co.uk Lancaster ME318 of 166 (RAF) Sqdn took part in the Key Raid against Freiburg 27/28 Nov 44. On 4 Dec 44 ME318 was airborne at 1615 from Kirmington on an operation against Karlsruhe, Germany. One Canadian, P/O G. C. Clewley, survived the crash and was taken PoW. The remainder were killed. The four Canadians were: F/O (N) A. J. Reid age 21 from Toronto; F/S (BA) E. F. Williams age 27 from Toronto; F/S (AG) H. R. Thyret age 19 from Fort Erie; F/S (AG) R. J. Barr age 19 from Toronto. Also killed were: F/S J. A. Joyce RAAF age 20, and Sgt. A. J. Taylor RAF who, at age 39, was amongst the oldest airmen killed on Bomber Command operations. -

DURNBACH WAR CEMETERY Germany
Durnbach is a village 16 kilometres east of Bad Tolz, a town 48 kilometres south of Munich. Durnbach War Cemetery is 3 kilometres north of the village Gmund am Tegernsee. Using the A8 from Munich, turn off at the junction Holzkirchen, taking the 318 road in the direction of Gmund am Tegernsee. At the crossroads with the 472, turn left in the direction of Miesbach. The cemetery is situated approximately 500 metres on the left from the 318/472 crossroads.
