Son of William Roy Campbell and Hazel Noel Smith, of Hamilton, Ontario. Hazel, enlisted on 14 February 1916, served as a nursing sister at the Ontario Military Hospital, Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, before serving in England during the First World War.

William Crawford served in Canada, in England and in Burma.

TAUKKYAN WAR CEMETERY is outside Yangon (formerly Rangoon, Burma), near the airport and immediately adjoining the village of Taukkyan. It is on PY1 road (formerly Prome Road), about 35 kilometres north of the city from which it is easily accessible.
