Flight Sergeant Douglas Haig McAlpine
Douglas McAlpine and his brother W. B. McAlpine, lived at 90 Sterling St. Douglas attended South Collegiate and enlisted in 1940. He won his Wing as an Air Gunner and joined #44 Rhodesia Squadron in the United Kingdom. His squadron was part of daylight raids over German on August 17, 1942. His Lancaster bomber was shot down on the way to Augsburg, Germany.
