  • Photo of G.R.Graham Kite– Flying Officer G.R.Graham Kite, Photo taken at 10 Wing England. On September, 23, 1944 F/O Kite and his crew, were returning from a bombing mission over Neuss, Germany. This was his 31st Opperational mission. They were shot down and crash landed in Holland. The Halifax bomber "W" #MZ 474, was completely destroyed on impact. F/O Kite and his Wireless Operater Flight Segeant A.G.T. "Jock" Saunders (RAF), were both killed. The five other crew members had bailed out to safety, on my brothers commad. The Navigater, Flying Officer Gordon Chorly, told me that F/S Saunders, had been wounded and unable to bail out. Consequently, my brother tried to crash land the Halifax, in a small field in Holland, in order to save his W.O.A.G. , Flight Sergeant Saunders. An American Captain witnessed the event. They almost succeeded in landing in the small field in Holland. The bomber struck some high trees at the approach end of the field and crashed. It was in the U.S. section of the village of Zwier,Limberg, Holland. F/O G.R. Graham Kite was awarded the Opperational Wing posthumiously. Medals: C.V.S.M. and Clasp, Defence Medal, War medal 1939 - 45, 1939 - 45 Star, France and Germany Star.
